The Legend of Heroes Story

If you didn’t already know, Falcom’s long running The Legend of Heroes franchise includes a lot of games — and all of them contribute to a huge overall story. The property’s popularity has increased significantly over the last several years here in the West, with the Trails of Cold Steel series introducing loads of new players to the ongoing saga.

The West is still waiting to catch up with Japan, however. Publisher NIS America is doing its best to bring more of the Trails games overseas in a timely manner, but in Japan, The Legend of Heroes is well into its latest arc, which began with Kuro no Kiseki last year. Thankfully, Falcom has told us that it intends to bring the Kuro games West — it’s just a matter of when.

But is Falcom just going to keep making The Legend of Heroes titles forever? What’s the end goal here? In an interview that we recently conducted with Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo, he stated that the overall story is “about 60%-70%” complete. We assume that Kondo-san is taking the soon-to-be-released Kuro no Kiseki II: Crimson Sin into account with that percentage.

So, after three Trails in the Sky games, two Crossbell titles, four Trails of Cold Steel games, massive crossover adventure Trails into Reverie, and the two aforementioned Kuro games, The Legend of Heroes is only just closing in on being three quarters complete. That’s some dedication!

“Originally, I was happy to just to let the series go as far as it could with no real sense of an endpoint, and honestly, I didn’t think it would continue as long as it has. We’re extremely glad to be able to continue to work on it,” Kondo told us.

We’ll be publishing the full interview with Kondo-san in the very near future, so keep an eye out.
