Tessa Thompson returns to the MCU as Valkyrie in Thor: Love and Thunder, but her new look for the upcoming movie made its way online a little earlier than it should have done.

Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie first appeared in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, where the elite Asgardian warrior encountered Chris Hemsworth’s Thor on the planet of Sakaar. After joining forces with Thor in the fight against Hela, Valkyrie then accompanied him and the other Asgardian refugees to Earth. She took part in the battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame and then went on to be named King of New Asgard.

In Thor: Love and Thunder she once again joins forces with Thor to combat Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. But Valkyrie’s new costume leaked online ahead of its official unveiling, after Tessa Thompson shared a selfie from set.

Marvel Studios is notoriously strict when it comes to preventing spoilers from their films getting out. However, Valkyrie’s new black and white costume, which echoes the look of Thor’s own MCU costumes, made its way online after Tessa Thompson sent an ill-judged selfie to her stepmom.

During an interview with Fandango All Access, Tessa Thompson was asked about an Instagram post showing off her new Valkyrie outfit, which was shared long before Marvel officially revealed any footage of Valkyrie in Thor: Love and Thunder. The actress was quick to own up to her mistake, but pointed out that she wasn’t the one who posted the image:

“Oh, that… no. See… I sent a picture to my stepmom and she posted it on Instagram. Yeah, [it] wasn’t me and it’s a big thing. She feels terrible. I’m so sorry, Marvel. I’m so sorry, Disney. It’s not my fault. I will never– I’m never gonna send selfies again.”

While the first glimpse of Tessa Thompson’s new Valkyrie threads arrived a little earlier than it should have done, the character has now been seen on posters and in trailers for Thor: Love and Thunder, showcasing her new costume in all its glory.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
