In its 10 day run, Vikram has done the unthinkable. The Kamal Haasan film has emerged the highest grossing Tamil film of the year by going past the collections of Thala Ajith’s Valimai and Thalapathy Vijay’s Beast. At the end of the second weekend, the collections of Vikram in Tamil Nadu stands at Rs. 135 crores.
The movie has recorded an excellent Sunday of Rs. 14 to 15 crores gross, and this is an all time record for second Sunday in Tamil Nadu. The film collected Rs. 10.50 crores on Day 9, which is yet another All time record for a film on second Saturday. The movie has gone past the collections of films like Valimai and Beast with ease, as the two films had collected Rs. 100 crores and Rs. 120 crores respectively in the state of Tamil Nadu. Vikram has also gone past the Tamil Nadu collection of KGF 2, which stood at Rs. 110 crores.
It is already the highest grossing film of the year in Tamil Nadu, and is now fast heading to topple two All time records held by Bigil and Bahubali 2. While Bigil is the highest grossing Tamil Film of all time in Tamil Nadu, Baahubali 2 holds the record of being an All Time Gross in the state. Vikram is expected to break Bigil’s (Rs. 141 crores) record to emerge Tamil cinema’s biggest grosser by Wednesday and the 5 year long standing record of Baahubali 2 (Rs. 155 crores) is expected to be history by the third weekend.
Vikram is sure to be an industry hit and the all time record set by it is expected to remain unchallenged for years to come by. While entire Tamil trade expected either Vijay, Ajith and Rajinikanth to break the record of Baahubali 2, it’s Kamal Haasan who rose like a phoenix out of nowhere, to not just topple, but decimate the record (hopefully by a big margin).
